Bertone unveiled its extreme concept car codenamed “Project M” at Shanghai Motor Show. Its design is inspired from Corvette ZR1.

Features:

• Interplay of convex and concave shapes and the jet-style teardrop canopy with butterfly opening doors, similar to that of th Pininfarina P4/5, a previous creation of Jason Castriota.
• Extensive testing in a full scale wind tunnel, resulting in a drag coefficient reduced by 25% (Cd 0.298) and a 30% improvement in down force.
• Use of carbon fiber for the body panels, interior trim/seats and wheels allowed to reduce the total weight by 100kg.
• 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.2 sconds and a top speed of 351 km/h.

According to the first information the working prototype will be privately unveiled on April 23rd at the Balocco near Turin and will be on public display at the Concours d’Elegance at Villa d’Este.

The original Sidekick LX got video playback support back in July of last year by way of over-the-air update. While it was a nice bonus, it wasn’t ideal. Limited to h.263 encoded 3GPP videos, it was neither high-quality nor convenient.

According to details shared with us this morning, it looks like they’ve amped things up a bit. Here’s what we’ve confirmed so far:

• 3GPP: Yes
• h.263: Yes
• h.264: Yes
• Streaming (Presumably 3GP): Yes
• MPEG-4: Yes
• Maximum resolution: It can playback videos up to the full resolution of the screen, 858×480. There aren’t too many 858×480 videos lurking around, so as a more common metric: it can playback video at 720×480, the same resolution used by nearly all North American DVDs.

We only went digging for playback information, but turned up some details on video recording as well. Here’s what we’ve heard on the matter:

* Codec: MP4 in high quality mode, h.263 in low quality mode
* Recording resolution: 320×240 or 176×144, depending on settings
* Recording length (1GB microSD card, high quality): 15 hours, 34 minutes
* Recording length (1GB microSD card, low quality): 16 hours, 56 minutes

These are all theoretical limitations, of course. We haven’t personally seen video playing back at these resolutions, so we can’t vouch for their smoothness. We’re working on getting photo/video recording samples, but that might have to wait until tomorrow’s festivities.

Into our tips this evening dropped this photo labeled “Zune 3rd”. We’re not sure if it’s real, but it’s certainly an interesting addition to the phantom new Zune lineup.

Presuming the “Zune HD” is real, that leaves two spots left in the probably concise new Zune product line: An HDD-based player evolving from the Zune 80/120, and a smaller flash player to replace the Zune 4/8/16. It’s unclear where this would fit; all we can see is that it retains the “squircle” and it’s packing a large widescreen.

On the other hand, if we take the Zune HD as real, we’ve got some problems as well. This image doesn’t jibe with the HD either in style (the HD is aluminum, not black) or in advertising tone (this one has the old-school paint images instead of the newer geometric shapes). Plus, we don’t like how low on the player’s body that squircle sits— it looks like it’d be awkward to hold and use.

Eco Factor: Concept quad bike designed to run on electric engine.

Emanuel Abba designed “Urban Quad Bike” concept to create a new way of urban transport that could reduce the amount of cars on the streets, which in turn reduces pollution and congestion. Its a electric vehicle, based on a standard quad bike chassis and costs less.

The idea was to create a new way of urban transport that could reduce the amount of cars on the streets, which could reduce pollution and congestion. Since the vehicle is based on a standard quad bike chassis, it could be easily produced and won’t cost much.

Running on a zero-emission electric engine, the concept makes sure that your ride to the office is least harmful to the environment. The designer estimates that a decent lithium ion battery pack would be enough for a speedy trip to the office. Considering the fact that most of the times you travel alone in your car, thereby wasting both space and fuel, the Urban Quad Bike should prove a much better alternative.
